[/responsive]The winner of the 2013 Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival Prize is the project The Mesh and the Circle by Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela
The Jury for the international Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival Prize 2013 – Adam Budak, Maria Lind and Silvia Lucchesi -has unanimously decided on the winning project: The Mesh and the Circle by Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela. The prize was awarded due to their project’s experimental and interdisciplinary nature, involving the creation of an inventory of images tied to ritual, work, play, and domestic activities from various regions of Portugal, considered in their gestural, material and aesthetic aspects, as archetypal forms of consciousness.
The project’s proposed anthropologic slant and methodological approach are of particular interest, starting with observation and the gathering of documentation in the field, in order to arrive at a narrative reconfiguration of various visual and audio elements through allusive correspondences and symbolic resonance.
The film will premiere in the 7th edition of the Lo Schermo dell’arte Film Festival in 2014.
[box style=”1″]Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela are Portuguese artists, born in 1984 and 1985. They collaborated since when they studied in Oporto. Invited at the Prize Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival by Filipa Ramos.
Since 2010, they have been working at Gradations of Time over a Plane, an ongoing project wich focus on the symbolic manifestations of the concept of time in nature and in human cultural environments. The project involves the use of different media: film projections, video installations, site specific projects.
