Lo schermo dell’arte celebrates its ten years of activity in the field of the moving image with the publication of the volume Lo schermo dell’arte 10 Years Between Contemporary Art and Cinema. Edited by Silvana Fiorese and Valeria Mancinelli and published by Giunti Editore, the book has been realised thanks to the contribution of the Fondazione CR Firenze/OAC Osservatorio arti contemporanee, supporter of the festival since its first edition.
The book is structured into several sections: A conversation between the founders of Lo schermo dell’arte Massimo Carotti, Luca Dini and Silvia Lucchesi takes stock of the reasons that led to its foundation and of the possible future developments of the project. Then, the original papers of fifteen italian and foreign curators: Leonardo Bigazzi, Adam Budak, Barbara Casavecchia, Stefano Collicelli Cagol, Alfredo Cramerotti, Eva Fabbris, Solange Farkas, Silvana Fiorese, Omar Kholeif, Valeria Mancinelli, Sarah Perks, Ana Teixeira Pinto, Marco Senaldi, Francesca Giulia Tavanti, and Desdemona Ventroni who, reflecting on recurring contents in films and videos presented by the festival during these years, address social, political and ethical issues of the time we live in as well as aspects of the encounter between cinema and contemporary art, like the relation between the artwork, the device, the exhibition space and the movie theatre. The book ends with the index and data sheets of more than 270 films screened between 2008 and 2018, of the people who worked for Lo schermo dell’arte, of the artists and experts who participated at the two projects VISIO European Programme on Artists’ Moving Images and Feature Expanded European Art Film Strategies, of the supporters, the partners and the projects realised in these ten years of activity.

On the occasion of the book launch will be present Philippe-Alain Michaud, curator at the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou in charge of the film collection, Silvia Lucchesi, director of Lo schermo dell’arte, Gabriele Gori, director of Fondazione CR Firenze, and the book editors.
Afterwards, as an anticipation of the programme of Lo schermo dell’arte 2019, there will be a screening of the film commissioned and produced by Frieze in partnership with Gucci [button link=”http://www.schermodellarte.org/scheda_film.php?id=315&lingua=ENG&nochiudi=1?iframe=true&width=800&height=600″ size=”small” target=”_blank” style=”light” lightbox=”true” ] Everybody in the Place: An Incomplete History of Britain 1984-1992[/button] (UK, 2018, 61 min) by Jeremy Deller, artist to whom is dedicated the Focus of the 12th edition of the Festival.
