With this 5-minute short, commissioned by the Los Angeles County Museum, director Pippa Bianco creates a portrait of artist and photographer Barbara Kruger: her work, habits and theories. Influenced by years of experience in the field of editorial graphics, Kruger (who narrates the film) uses brief promotional messages packed with critical content and protest in high-contrast colors (black & white photographs with superimposed red script), with prevalently feminist subject matter. The film reveals her personality and her idea of art, through visual and musical contributions, with original compositions by Nicolas Jaar, inspired by her artistic process.

Pippa Bianco
Studied at Yale University. Her films have been screened, and were awarded prizes, at many festivals, including the most recent editions of SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas and Cannes. Picturing Barbara Kruger is her first documentary.
