Eva Hesse is one of the most influential artists of the American post-war period. Her sculptures, made of latex, plastic and fiberglass, have contributed to the birth of minimalism of the 60s and 70s and have influenced a new generation of artists. Her short career - she died of cancer at 34 - was marked by a complex production that considers a painting not as a two-dimensional surface, but as an object on the wall that juts out into the viewer's space, for which she used materials of various types such as strings, twine, wire, rubber, and fiberglass, new objets trouves. Marcie Begleiter’s film brings together valuable documents, such as diaries and correspondence with her friend and mentor Sol LeWitt, and the testimonies of artists who were her friends: Carl Andre, Robert and Sylvia Mangold, Richard Serra, Dan Graham, and others, to highlight her strong personality and the tenacity with which a female artist was able to leave an indelible mark in New York, in an area dominated by pop and minimalist male artists.
