Megunica is a unusual documentary and an hybrid artwork. It is the diary of an adventurous voyage of self-discovery that the notorious street artist Blu, together with film maker Lorenzo Fonda and two other friends (Silvia “Sibe” Siberini and Ivan Merlo) took towards the end of 2006 across five South American countries - Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Argentina - hence the title’s acronym. The scenes of Blu at work on anonymous and dilapidated walls, together with his extraordinary animations, which start out as quick sketches on paper, reveal with immediacy the empathy created with the many people encountered en route as well as the vitality of each different place; elements that feed the work with osmotic creative exchanges renewed at every stop. Megunica has been received with acclaim both by the critics and the public. The work won Best Creative Documentary Award at the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival.
