In this film by 2004 Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller, and choreographer and performer Cecilia Bengolea, we follow the fantastic adventures of a Japanese dancer known as Bom Bom, famous for her athletic and comic dance moves. Bom Bom takes a trip to Jamaica to attend a local dance music contest. With its special low-fi effects and its absurd sequences, the video looks like a contemporary and multicultural equivalent of Alice in Wonderland
Like many of Deller’s works, including his film on the international fan base of the British electronic group Depeche Mode, released in 2006, Bom Bom’s Dream explores rituals related to the world of popular music. Produced for the XXXII edition of the Sao Paulo Biennial, the film boasts an original soundtrack by Deller.
