A small film troupe explores Marrakech and its surrounding area for swimming pools: locations suitable for a remake of Frank Perry’s 1968 film, The Swimmer. Starring Burt Lancaster, set in Connecticut, the original film is the story of a man who crosses the State from one
pool to another to get home.
In this film, Corrado, the stand-in used to test the shots, runs through the city and swims in the pools of marvelous private homes. Corrado wants to be more than a mere stand-in, however. He feels he is a true actor, and wants to prove he’s up to playing the lead role. As his personal challenge unfolds, actors and crew work amid doubts and tensions. The behind-the-scenes documentary is intermingled with fiction, and it’s hard to tell which is which. Filippo Timi interprets Burt Lancaster’s role in the original film; Valeria Golino plays Janice Rule’s part.
