Preceded by great expectations, the outcome was astonishing and more than a million and a half of people walked on water during the 15 days of the installation. Between bureaucratic and logistical difficulties, the film by Andrev Paounov follows the artist during the preparation and realisation of the project, born from the evolution of a previously thought one, in 1969, for the Rio de La Plata in Argentina. Christo completes The Floating Piers seven years after the death of his wife and collaborator Jean Claude, with whom, since their first encounter in Paris in 1958, he signed every environmental art project that made them famous worldwide, from the early ones such as Wrapped Fountain and Wrapped Medieval Tower in Spoleto (1968) and The Wall in Roma in 1974, to the famous The Surrounded Islands in Miami’s Biscayne Bay (1983), Umbrellas (US and Japan, 1991), Wrapped Reichstag in Berlin (1995), The Gates at New York’s Central Park (2005). The film ends with the image of Christo doing an inspection in Abu Dhabi, where The Mastaba will rise from the desert, his extraordinary future project of building the biggest ephemeral sculpture in the world.
