As often happens in this artist’s research, the work on exhibition is activated by the physical presence of the viewer in the room and by his/her inevitable involvement. Through a game of shadows, illusions and projections on different planes, Sadiq’s video installation creates a meeting space in which the artist and the viewer exchange roles and gazes. The stripped-down setup, essentially consisting of a chair and a video projector, generates a complex and sophisticated non-verbal dialogue that takes shape on the screen, creating a space where hierarchies and differences disappear. The work is part of a broader research by the artist, focusing on the dynamics of social relations, exclusion and inclusion processes, and on the centrality of the role of the viewer in the artistic process.
