In Points on a Line, the artist portrays two symbolic pieces of contemporary architecture: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House in Illinois, designed for Dr. Edith Farnsworth; and Philip Johnson’s Glass House in Connecticut, the architect’s home until 2005 and the site of an important art and design collection. The footage of the sites, filmed by day and night, dwells on the surrounding landscapes’ beauty and the frosty geometries of the spaces, lines and colors, decor and objects, which the artist observed, following the gestures and rhythms of a domestic routine which has become ordinary maintenance. Liam Gillick’s soundtrack punctuates the ideal dialogue created by Morris with the two architectures, and accompanies images of other places linked to the personal and professional experiences of their authors, which the film-maker visited during the film’s production.
