Schermo dell'Arte - Archivio Film Gherard Steidl is one of the most important publishers to specialize in books about art, photography and fashion. In over 40 years of activity, his Göttingen workshop has produced some of the most significant published works of all time.

For a year, the two directors followed Steidl at work with world-famous artists such as Joel Sternfeld, Robert Frank, Jeff Wall, Ed Ruscha and Robert Adams, from New York to London, from Paris to the Qatar desert. The film is a portrait of an understated man, passionate about his work, a publisher who’s won international praise for his ability in joining the artistic and artisanal to such a high degree in his books’ appearance that they themselves become works of art.
