Presented at Lo schermo dell'arte 2012Damien Hirst was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize in 1995, and was celebrated in 2012 by the Tate Modern in London with a first major retrospective, scheduled to run concurrently with the mega-show Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011 at 11 branches of the world-wide Gagosian Gallery. In this film, the popular and controversial artist describes himself, delivering an unusual self-portrait.
Accompanied by a soundtrack featuring pieces by The Clash, The Stone Roses and Peters & Lee, Hirst talks about his life’s work, his youth in Leeds and artistic formation in London, and his recent years. The monologue is enlivened by original photos and films, many from the artist’s personal archive.

Chris King is an award-winning film-maker and editor, with more than 40 films for television and the cinema to his credit, including Senna, Exit Through The Gift Shop e Young@Heart. Recently received a BAFTA Television Award for his work Welcome to Lagos, the acclaimed BBC mini-series following the lives of Nigerians in the slums of the world’s fastest-growing megacity. Lives in London.
