With this short documentary about the Carnic honey bees, filmed in the Koshuta Mountains in Austria, Marine Hugonnier has created a charming naturalistic essay that also serves as a captivating metaphor for the mystery of image creation. The beehive is like a camera obscura, a black box whose contents remain unrevealed. Fascinated by the magical world of bees and their micro-utopian work community, the French artist shows how images of nature can be represented as true stories. The film captures the reality of what happens on set: on one side, the beehive with the bee colony, their swarming towards the trees disappearing into the nearby forest, the collection of pollen and honey; on the other side, the crew with the technical cinema equipment working on the filming. It explores that mysterious space between the gaze of the filmmaker and the observed things.
