Central Alberta reflects on the dynamics of a society overexposed to and desensitized to images of violence. The actors in the video perform texts collected from the forum of the most prominent website for sharing violent videos and images, including murders, torture, and fatal accidents.
Emmanuel Van der Auwera (1982, Belgium) studied in France at the École supérieure d’Art in Clermont-Ferrand (2005-2008) and at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains (2008-2010).

Van der Auwera creates videos, installations, photographs, and sculptures in which a cryptic perception of reality emerges through the use of political, historical, and scientific references and contexts.

He completed the post-academic program at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) in Ghent (2014-2015) and won the Langui Award of the Young Belgian Art Prize.

In 2016, his works were exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, Extra City (Antwerp), BIP Biennale in Liège, and the Meymac Contemporary Art Centre.

Recent exhibitions include Indiscipline at Palais de Tokyo (Paris), The End of the World at the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci (Prato), and solo shows at Espace Croisé Art Center (Tourcoing) and Harlan Levey Projects.
