Remade by Gianikian in 2008 from negatives after the original 1976 film was lost in London, this work, dedicated to Franco Basaglia, juxtaposes archival images of a hospital near Turin—scientific photographs of skin diseases affecting workers, particularly female rice-field laborers—with images of wounded soldiers’ bodies.
Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi. Both born in 1942, Yervant became an architect in Venice, Angela became a painter in Salzburg. They’ve won many awards and participated in major international film festivals, including Venice, Cannes, Locarno. They’ve been protagonists of major retrospectives in museums world-wide, including Mart Rovereto (2008), MoMA New York (2009), Hangar Bicocca Milano (2012), Centre Pompidou Paris (2015).
