The latest film by Chinese artist Yuyan Wang, winner of the 2022 VISIO Production Fund, is a digital collage inspired by the plastic and technology industries, venturing into a synthetic realm meticulously designed by global startups.
Everything is held together by a dark slime—an oily substance in which Jurassic-era flora is resurrected as plastic decoration in modern shopping malls. Like a work of philosophical science fiction, the film reveals the flawed logic underlying the bright techno-futuristic visions of the tech and extractive industries.
Yuyan Wang (China 1989, Lives and works in Paris) is a filmmaker and video artist. Her work has been showcased at Tate Modern, Palais de Tokyo, the 12th Berlin Biennale and various festivals, such as Berlinale, IFFR, European Media Art Festival, Indie Lisboa, receiving numerous awards.
