Miami Heights: Hernan Bas

This film is the first in a series of documentaries dedicated to the Miami contemporary art scene and its protagonists. It follows the creative and personal experiences of the young, successful painter Hernan Bas (born in Miami, Florida, in 1978) over 18 months beginning with the opening of his solo show at the Rubell Family Collection on the occasion of 2007 Art Basel Miami Beach and finishing with his important 2009 retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum of New York. The camera goes into his studio, showing the artist at work on one of his large canvases, while interviews with collectors and various experts illustrate the reasons behind his quick rise to fame. Bas has recently been interviewed by Maurizio Cattelan for the art magazine “Flash Art International” in the October 2009 issue. One of Bas’s works was featured on the cover. He was included in the project The Collectors, created for the Danish and Northern Countries Pavilions at the 2009 Venice Biennale, which won a Jury’s Special Mention.
