In the heart of Borneo, Kéria rescues an orphaned baby orangutan from loggers. Together with her cousin Selaï and the young Oshi, she confronts a forest under threat of destruction, rediscovering along the way her roots in the indigenous Penan people. Savages is a sensitive and compelling tale that weaves environmental protection with cultural identity, powerfully and delicately uniting ecological and universal themes.
Claude Barras (born 1973) is a Swiss stop-motion animation director, best known for My Life as a Courgette, an award-winning film nominated for the Academy Award. His work combines handcrafted filmmaking, social themes, and a sensitive look on childhood. In 2024, he presents Savages at the Cannes Film Festival.
