Jean Hubert (1987, France / Netherlands) graduated in 2010 from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (Ensba). His research focuses on the aesthetics of various film genres – science fiction, propaganda, romantic comedies, thrillers.
In his videos, there are always two intertwined layers of reality: the protagonists, often caught in a state of perplexity, begin to describe a world different from the one they are in – fiction. Through this open window into fiction, they speak about our daily concerns and banal situations.
He attended a video course at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, and from 2012 to 2013, he participated in the residency program at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. During this period, his work was supported by institutions such as the Amsterdam Fonds Voor de Kunst, the Mondriaan Fonds, and the Nederlands FilmFonds.
He is currently in residence at the Cité des Arts in Paris.
