The artists and filmmakers, who represented Brazil at the 58th Venice Biennale, collaborated
on this film, produced for Manifesta 13. The film is set in two locations: a 17th century
country estate in southern Ireland and a 19th century bourgeois villa in the center of Marseille.
These residences are now museums that welcome tourist groups, who carefully follow the
stories of the guides. The shots show the interiors and the attentive gazes of the visitors, who
reveal themselves to be performers ready to fill the rooms with music and dance. The language
is a hybrid between documentary and fiction, in which the boundary between performance and
video is thin and blurred. Among the architectures of the sumptuous villas, performances become
a writing instrument of the past, the music and songs temporarily occupy the space, thus
opening up to the imagination. The notes of the bagpipes, the violin and the Latin dance Seannósci
refer to the Irish tradition. These sounds then leave room for the notes of a mizwid, some
percussion and Berber qraqeb (castanets) accompanied by songs in Arabic. The film is a tribute
to the work of Bob Quinn, the Irish director who in the 1980s produced Atlantean, a quadrilogy
in which he investigates the role of North African cultures in the formation of Irish culture.
