Made during quarantine by US artist Andrew Norman Wilson, In the Air Tonight takes its title from the 1981 piece of the same name by Phil Collins - who can forget that drum fill that made pop history? - and builds a visual and textual narrative around the urban legend that surrounds the song’s enigmatic text. The tight succession of excerpts from Hollywood films and television series edited with a typical noir rhythm and Miami Vice settings accompanies a voiceover by an imaginary friend of the Genesis drummer, who narrates how Collins accidentally witnessed the death of a man by drowning. That day on the beach, however, the singer was not the only one to see the man. And during one of his concerts for a moment he catches sight of the other witness to the tragedy. So Wilson traces the legend around the origins of this anthemic song from the eighties whose veracity has recently been widely discussed on the social network Reddit. The artist decided to publish his video on this same platform for a limited time, opening a possible dialogue with an audience outside the art world.
