The documentary offers a new perspective at the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat and analyzes his relationship with Caribbean family origins. From Brooklyn to Abidjan, passing through Mississippi, Puerto Rico and Haiti, the film is a journey in search of the identity of the most famous contemporary African-American artist in search of his Haitian and Puerto Rican roots. The documentary interviews African-American artists and musicians from the 1970s and 1980s, such as Alvin Fields and Michael Holman, who talk about their role in American art.
