Catalan artist Gerard Ortín Castellví’s film analyzes recent technological transformations of contemporary industrial agriculture. Machines check and sort flowers and plants in an industrial greenhouse. Cameras allow farmer-robots to do their work. Scans of tulip bulbs, chrysanthemum stems and vine tomatoes provide data that regulates their growth. The greenhouse is an automated, optimized set for the mass production of fruit and flowers. Humans only intervene to straighten what is crooked, plant delicate vegetation or clean the machinery to ensure that things run smoothly. Products must comply to specifications in order to go on the market. At night, however, when the machines are asleep, unexpected forms of life enter the scene and take control.
